Karnataka Co shortlisted for beach cleaning, price up from 9 Cr to 40 cr

Government has shortlisted Karnataka Commerce and and Industrial Pvt. Ltd for beach cleaning contract. Tourism Minister Babu Azagonkar said this company is the lowest among the five bidders. However, he did not tell the House why the contract price has gone up from 9 crore rupees to 40 crore rupees since 2014.



Beach cleaning has been the topic of heated debates in the Assembly due to charges of corruption.


This is the third contract. Babu said he was happy with Drishti but it had to be dropped due to allegations.


The new contract was delayed due to election code of conduct.


Babu however did not reply to the vital question raised by Congress MLA Alex Reginald Lourenco. Why the contract price has escalated from 9 crore rupees to 40 crore in last five years. .

Hinting at Solid Waste Management minister Michael Lobo, Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai took a dig at Babu, asking how he could decide about beach cleaning.
