Sanjivani Sugar factory won’t start, Govt exploring alternates

The fate of Sanjivani Sugar factory is sealed. Goa government has announced that the factory won’t start in November in the crushing season to produce sugar. However, government will buy sugarcane of farmers at market price.

Instead of sugar, government is thinking of alternate products like Ethanol.

Cooperation Minister Govind Gaude made it clear in the Assembly on Wednesday that the factory won’t open in the next season.

It has appointed a consultant to explore other methods of utilising sugarcane in Goa rather than sugar.

Because the accumulated loss has crossed 100 crore rupees.

The question in this regard was raised by Poriem MLA Pratapsing Rane.

Rane has suggested to partly use Goa’s sugarcane either to manufacture Ethanol or alcohol.

However, during Assembly Audit programme of Goa365, veteran journalist asked why Goa’s traditional and ethnic sugarcane products can’t be promoted in tourism industry.
