Extortion attempt backfires, one accused, security guard injured

An alleged extortion went wrong resulting in one of the accused himself getting injured. A security guard at one of the shops where the attempt took place, has also been left injured as the assailants used swords and rods.



 The assault was carried out by four persons on Tuesday at 9.40pm in an open and crowded area.

The police have arrested all four who are history sheeters and have many criminal cases registered against them.

Calangute Police said  30-year- old Swapnil Redkar working as a private security guard was assaulted by Tarzan Parsekar , Surya Kambli, Imran Bepari and Suraj Shetye. They sprayed pepper spray into the complainant's eyes and then assaulted him, injuring his right leg thigh and right ankle with a chopper.

Tarzan, who was allegedly carrying a sword, is from Nagoa. Surya Kambli from Taleigao, Imran Bepari from Santa Cruz and Suraj Shetye from Merces were traced at Pernem in the wee hours and arrested by a Special Police Team of Calangute Police Station. SP North Shri Shobbit Saxena gave details.
