Our next story focuses on the latest COVID-19 situation in India as we approach the end of the year. In the last 24 hours, the Health Ministry has reported seven new fatalities due to COVID-19.

Kerala, Karnataka, Chhattisgarh, and Tamil Nadu recorded three, two, one, and one death, respectively. The daily case count, which remained in double digits until December 5, has been on the rise again. Cold weather conditions and the emergence of a new COVID-19 variant are believed to be contributing factors.

As we reflect on the year gone by, it's important to note that at the peak of the pandemic, daily cases were in lakhs. Over the past four years, more than 4.5 crore people have been infected, and sadly, over 5.3 lakh lives have been lost across the country

On a positive note, the number of recoveries has surpassed 4.4 crore, with a national recovery rate of 98.81%, according to the Health Ministry's website. The vaccination drive continues to be a key focus. As of now, 220.67 crore doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered throughout the country.
