Fish import ban for 6 months: Vishwajit

10 Nov 2018 07:42 PM

The government has banned the import of fish into the state for six months. The ban will be in place till all measures like labs and compliance of fish traders are put into effect.

The ban could be extended for another 6 months, the Health Minister Vishwajit Rane said on Saturday. But this is in case all measures are not in place within 6 months.

However, the 6 month ban would hold even if the traders’ compliance was completed within the period. Here’s more.

The pressure on the government over the formalin has been unrelenting. The stung fish vendors have even attacked the Health Minister.

The health minister was unrelenting when he said that there would be no compromise on checking of fish. He came down particularly hard on fish traders chief Ibrahim Maulana

Meanwhile, 5 more boxes of fish were found today. The 5 boxes were unloaded at Merces at around 8 in the morning.

They mistakenly reached Panjim instead of their destination Mapusa. Information by the authorities says that the boxes were loaded by one Pritam More at at Sawantwadi. The boxes have been disposed off.

Benaulim MLA Churchill Alemao, also with roots in fishing came out strongly on the issue. He supported the ban and once again condemned fish trader chief Ibrahim
