Safran and Hal to set up JV in Goa

Hal and Safran have signed a “Memorandum of Understanding” to extend their cooperation and explore opportunities for new helicopter engines in civil and military markets.



With Ukraine and Russia already at war and threats  of a possible 3rd world war already flying from one side of the fence to another of a 3rd world war, countries around India has realised the importance of self-reliance both economically and in military.

With tough economic sanctions on Russia, and Ukraine in dire straits, India which relies on both for a major part of its weapons both new and maintenance of old weapons systems, is in a bit of a quandary with no short term solution in sight. Modi in also held a high level meet to discuss the self-dependency of defence in the country

Hindustan aeronautics limited and Safran have entered into a MoU to set up a training and assembly centre in Goa. The CEOs and managing directors of both companies along with top brass  of the armed forced were present during the ceremony.

The Partnership aims at increasing the self-reliance of defence in the country under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative. The partnership also aims at research and development for more advanced military tech and cheaper, more efficient engines for consumers. The venture will also increase the operational readiness of the armed forces in the country

The facility will be operational by the end of 2023 with a capacity to repair 50 engines a year and a full-capacity goal of 150 engines in the coming years. The JV will also bring employment opportunities to over 60 qualified engineers and technicians of the region.

The employment number will increase with growing activities over the years.  The facility has an expansion capacity for other programs and could include civil or other engines in the future.
