The lack of rainfall this year has led to shortage of water in Anjunem dam reservoir in Sattari taluka.

As water in the dam is below level 7, it is likely to lead to water supply issues both for drinking as well as agriculture given that this dam is a major source of water supply to Bicholim and Sattari talukas.

There was less rainfall in September, Anjunem dam reservoir has not been filled up to the desired level.

Environmentalist Rajendra Kerkar said there was a rainfall deficit of 17%.

Kerkar also expressed the fear of Kalsa-Bhandura water diversion project at Kankumbi could lead to a water shortage.

He also claimed that Karnataka government was speeding up work on the project violating NGT’s order.

However, WRD Executive Engineer of Anjunem dam ruled out the possibility of water shortage in Sattari and Bicholim talukas.
