The first test flight was flown at Goa’s Mopa International Greenfield Airport today, under the supervision of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation officials. An IndiGo aircraft was used for the purpose.

All national and international flights for Goa are currently being handled by Dabolim airport, which is also a naval base. Only 70 flights land on the Dabolim airport on a daily basis since no flight landing is allowed between 9 am to 2 pm.

After the Mopa airport becomes functional, number of flights landing in Goa is likely to go up to 150. Following the success of the test landing the Chief Minister, Dr. PramodSawant, in a two part twitter thread, said “The Infrastructural dream for all round development of Goa is ready to begin its operation soon”

Speaking on the occasion, CEO-GGIAL, R. V. Sheshan said, “Today, we have successfully completed the Required Navigation Performance Procedure at the upcoming New Goa International Airport.

RNP approach ensures integrity & accuracy and helps an aircraft to follow specific paths using board equipment. This procedure not only offers safety benefits by means of its precision and accuracy, but it also enhances operational efficiency by minimising multiple step-downs, and inaccurate circling approaches etc.
