Goa has potential of 50 b fish export industry: Suresh Prabhu

While Goans are deprived of fish on account of ban on fish import, Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Suresh Prabhu has laid plans to export Goan fish to various parts of the world.



Prabhu said Goa has potential to export marine and meat products.



The government has banned fish import from other states as a solution to formalin issue.



Opposition says only small fish is available in Goa and big fish is imported from other States. But for Prabhu Goan fish business is an industry of 50 billion.


Countries like Japan and South Korea would savour the Goan fish. Prabhu says Goa could be an export hub for rice, marine products and meat.


Speaking at a conference on MSME’s Ecosystem in Food Processing, Prabhu focused on promoting export of organic and agricultural products of India.



Prabhu said restrictions on organic and agricultural goods would be relaxed.


He also informed that Abu-Dhabi Investment Authority is investing more than 1.6 trillion dollars in agriculture sector and 50 billion dollars were foreplanned on October 16
