DAILY COVID CASES HOVERING AT 20K

Covid-19 cases in India witnessed a marginal dip on Sunday with the country recording 19,673 fresh infections in the past 24 hours. India has been breaching the 20,000-mark in reporting the daily Covid-19 cases over the past few days. Here’s more on the covid situation in the country



With cases hovering at the 20,000 mark, The Himachal Pradesh education department has banned prayer meetings in schools as cases of the virus are increasing in the state.

Meanwhile, the tourist city of Shimla is witnessing a steady increase in new cases of coronavirus. On Saturday, there were over 120 new cases in the hilly state with 855 active cases. The continuous influx of new cases has caused a stir in the health department.

- Daily positivity rate stands at 4.96%

-weekly positivity rate stands at 4.88%

--A decrease of 292 cases in the active caseload in a span of 24 hours

The daily count of coronavirus cases also breached the 1,000-mark in the national capital for the fourth consecutive day, while the positivity rate in the city was above five percent for eight days in a row.

The central government had reviewed the covid-19 situation in 115 districts of nine states showing a surge in covid cases and positivity rate, and flagged concerns regarding low levels of testing and vaccination.

It directed states and union territories to report and monitor district-wise cases on a daily basis and step-up vaccination.

Under the Covid-19 nationwide vaccination program, a total 204.25 crore vaccine jabs have been inoculated in the country so far. With an increasing number of covid cases and low uptake of booster doses across India,

the union health ministry has also launched a campaign to provide free-of-cost booster dose to all individuals above 18 years of age at government vaccination centres

With cases hovering above the 100 mark in the state, urban health center, Margao organized a tika Utsav at Ravindra bhavan in a bid to administer booster doses to those eligible. However, the response for the same was poor.
