Mopa opponents don’t understand what’s aviation or tourism: CM

Chief minister Manohar Parrikar has come down heavily upon the organisations opposing the Mopa air port.

He has alleged that these people don’t understand anything about aviation or tourism.

They were opposing the Mopa airport without knowing that the Daboli international airport was not capable of handling any more increase in air traffic.

The chief minister told reporters after the cabinet briefing that that he would sort out the issue of charter landing allotments at the Daboli.

He said that it was not possible to increase the landings at Mopa because Daboli was primarily a Navy airport and Naval flights would increase as naval activity increased due to the naval expansion.

The chief minister Manohar Parrikar said that Bainguinim land for a garbage dump was an absolute necessity. But there were vested interests trying to block that on flimsy but mostly selfish reasons.
