Fire tenders were rushed to Taleigaon in the afternoon to tackle a massive field fire. What is thought to be a man – made fire, spread rapidly from one field to the next. Firefighters struggled to bring the raging fire under control for over 2 hours. The strong breeze, that offered respite from the heatwave for some, ensured the fire kept burning.

The owners of the field that caught fire have lost most of the crops and vegetables that they would have otherwise sold. An elderly couple, who own an adjoining field, informed that these fires are a common occurrence. And very often, fires from other fields spread and damage parts of their land. Listen to what they have to say.

Interesting to note however, is that while the massive fire, the smoke from which could be seen from Miramar, broke out near the village Panchayat office, none of thePanch members were at the site. Our reporters tried to contact the Sarpanch, Janu Rosario and Deputy Sarpanch, ReghaPai to understand what measures if any the Panchayat was taking to tackle such issues. While we did manage to reach out to Rosario for comment Pai refrained from speaking.

Firefighters who spent over two hours trying to bring the fire under control, believe that this fire had a man-made start. Here’s what they had to say

Goa 365 also spoke to social activist and AAP leader, Cecile Rodrigues. Here’s what she had to say.
