We have more cancer cases because longevity has gone up: Dr Mallath

Oncologist Dr Mohandas Mallath is of the opinion that there is no epidemic of cancer. He says one finds cancer mainly in older people and as longevity of the population has gone up we find more cancer cases. But he also says environment and smoking contribute towards lung cancer. He said two-thirds of the cancers are caused due to random mutation of stem cells.



Goa Cancer Society, in association with Goa Medical College and Hospital,  organised the 6th annual  Goa Cancer Society lecture by senior consultant at Tata Medical Centre in Kolkata Dr Mohandas Mallath.

The lecture titled  Growing burden of cancer in India  was held at GMC hospital. Present on the occasion were Health Minister Vishwajit Rane, President of Goa Cancer Society Shrinivas Dempo, Dean of Goa Medical Shivanand Bandekar and other dignitaries. 

A digital class room was also inaugurated by Health Minister Vishwajit  Rane.
