There is good news about tobacco and oral cancer cases in Goa. NOTE Secretary Dr Shekhar Salkar says the tobacco consumption among the Goan population has come down to 9 per cent from a high of 35 per cent in 1984. He says as a consequence there is a drop in oral cancer cases too.

Dr Salkar however said there is an increase in women smoking and this a challenge to the authorities to keep the tobacco consumption low.

Dr Salkar was speaking at the awareness programme organised in Bicholim for government officials on Thursday.
