Sugar Factory: Sanguem MLA, farmers meet CM over factory restart

A private player should be roped in to harvest sugarcane, bring it to the factory and convert it into sugar. The administrative process should be looked into by the government. And with this strategy, the Sanjivanee sugar factory could start by this year, Sanguem MLA Prasad Gaonkar said on Monday.

The Sanguem MLA along with sugarcane farmers met Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and submitted this proposal. However, Chief Minister was not in favour of this proposal saying he has better plans, Prasad said. Prasad said he had started a discussion with sugar cane farmers and other stakeholders for past one month on restarting the sugar factory.
