It’s true that raids are conducted on illegal sand extraction in some talukas. But not in Cancona.

On the contrary, the illegal sand extractors are assaulting the youth who oppose such illegalities.

31-year old Amey Puranik from Partagal was assaulted by a local sand mafia on Sunday only on a suspicion that he had filed a complaint against the illegal sand extraction.

Amey has taken up agriculture as his mission in Partagal even after excelling in MTech.

He is not in favour of ongoing illegal sand extraction in the Talpona river flowing from his village.

But he also says he had not filed a formal complaint.

But when a news of this illegality appeared in a local newspaper, the sand mafia thought that Amey is behind it.

And he was beaten up in a broad dayling and even his vehicle was damaged.

Cancona police arrested only one person and no further action against the sand mafia.

Aam Aadmi Party’s Goa Convenor Elvis Gomes was the first one to condemn this incident.
