Saligao plant will turn into time bomb: Jayesh

Saligao garbage treatment plant will turn into time bomb if its capacity is increased to 250 tonnes, says Saligao MLA Jayesh Salgaonkar. He has threatened to stop garbage trucks proceeding towards the plant.

On Tuesday a meeting was convened by Saligao Communidade on the expansion of the plant which was attended by sarpanchas, local MLA, opposition party leaders and locals.

Jayesh said former chief minister Manohar Parrikar had bought in this garbage plant.

The plant had a capacity to treat 80 tonnes of garbage and than its capacity was increased to 100 tonnes.

Now, the government wants to increase its capacity to 250 tonnes.

If the capacity is increased garbage from other parts of the State will also be dumped here.

Now, local MLA, neighbouring panchayats and locals have threatened to hit the roads in protest.

Saligao Sarpanch, panch members, Saligao communidade has also opposed the expansion of plant.
