Fights begin from Chandor, over sites for (stinking) public toilets!

To make Goa open defacation-free state, government has directed panchayats to erect community toilets. But this has led to people fighting over the locations of public toilets. In Chandor, there is a three-corner fight between the residents, the panchayat and the Church. In the bargain, one toilet under construction has been demolished by some unknown persons.

Chandor panchayat wants to build a public toilet at Tintto, around which there is a Church, Panchayat office, a school and a market. The Fabrica has suggested a location which is across two houses of Lincoln Fernandes and an old lady. The panchayat wants to build it elsewhere, but Fabrica doesn’t agree. And when the panchayat went to build the public toilet, some unknown persons demolished it. While police are investigating, people are suggesting alternate sites.

Everybody supports a public toilet because the Wednesday market in Chandor attracts over 300 people and the whole area stinks. But the Fabrica and the panchayat told Goa365 different versions over the present site and the alternate sites.

The issue has just begun from Chandor. Like opposition to garbage treatment plants, it will have to be seen if oppositions come up everywhere also now to build community toilets and make Goa open defecation-free state.
