The disqualification petition filed by the Congress against their two MLAs has reached Speaker’s office, the Speaker confirmed. However, he said that he would take it up after the assembly session.

Ironically, the Congress has still not appointed a leader of opposition and the speaker has said that Michael Lobo will still continue as the LoO

The Congress has filed the disqualification petition before the Speaker against Calangute MLA Michael Lobo and Margao MLA Digambar Kamat on yesterday night. However, Speaker  has not issued notices to them.

The Congress had also submitted a letter to the Speaker removing Michael Lobo as Opposition Leader. However, Michael continues to serve the position as Congress has still not managed to reach a consensus on a new opposition leader.

Meanwhile, even though the rumours of a split in the Congress refuse to die down, Michael said his fate lies with Speaker. Highly placed sources say that the move is still on and even if it does not take place immediately, the movement will continue.

Congress party has alleged that this coup is engineered by BJP to break Congress. However, BJP State President Sadanand Shet Tanavade has refuted this, albeit with a caveat. He says that as BJP is a national party, their doors are always open.
