Sonsodo issue is still unsolved and waste is still piling up. But the government has still not managed to get its act together.

After the dump has been handed over to the Margao municipality and the government, Waste Management Minister Michael Lobo on Saturday said that the Goa Waste Management Corporation needed more time to install machinery to treat day to day garbage.

A High Power Coordination Committee meeting was held on Friday evening at the Secretariat to discuss the Sonsodo issue.

Michael Lobo spoke to Goa 365 after the meeting. Lobo said GWMC was only treating the Sonsoddo legacy waste at present.

But day to day waste cannot be treated as machiner set up by Fomento's is out of order.

The corporation is now looking for a contractor who can treat 35 tonnes of garbage per day.

Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardessai, in whose constituency the dump is, and who was present at the high powered meeting called it inconclusive.

He said government was looking for long term solution when a short term solution is the need of the hour.
