Congress fields Dores Texeira for MMC chairperson's post

Congress has fielded Dores Texeira as its candidate for Margao Municipal Council chairperson's post. Dores said she want's to work beyond the caste and religon. She hopes she would get support of other councillors as she had 15 years of experience. On Wednesday Goa Forward's Pooja Naik had filed her nomination.

The post of chairperson fell vacant after Babita Prabhudessai tendered her resignation following an uproar during the MMC's last general body meeting on the issue of installing Jack Sequeira's statue.

Fourteen out of 25 councillors protested outside chief officer's cabin on the issue of statue.

Later, 6 councillors backed by Congress have extended their support to Dores for chairperson's post.

Local MLA Digambar Kamat too has extended his support to her.
