Money power, Babush responsible for Cong split: Chellakumar

The Congress party in Goa is headless. Its leader of opposition has taken two thirds of Congress MLAs and merged with the BJP. The MLAs include the newly elected Panaji MLA who the Congress high command blames for engineering the split. There are only 5 MLAs – four former chief ministers and one senior leader - left in the Goa Congress as of now.

Central observer Dr A Chellakumar and former chief minister and Margao MLA Digamber Kamamt met in Margao to take stock of the situation. Former chief minister and a possibly frontrunner for the post of president Digamber Kamat met Dr A Chellakumar in Margao in the aftermath of the surgical strikes by the BJP on the Congress ranks.

Dr Chellakumar accused the BJP of using money power to break his party in the state likening it to what was done in other states. He blamed recent entrant and Panaji MLA Babush Monserate for the happenings of Wednesday.
