Ore trucks stopped after water bills not paid by mining companies, connections disconnected

Shrigao locals stop mining transportation at Poira on Monday alleging that the 3 mining company’s operating in the village are not paying their water bills for the past 2 years. Because of this this water connections have been disconnected, Sarpanch Sadanand Gaonkar said. Meanwhile, the Bicholim Deputy collector met locals and assured that he would come out with a solution to this problem.



On Monday, the Shirgao farmers and locals blocked the roads and stop the mining trucks taking the ore out. Mining companies used to pay the locals water bills after their wells ran dry. However, for the past 2 years the bills have not been paid as companies said that mining had stopped.
