Goa Foundation and other NGOs on Saturday locked the mines department and handed over the keys to the Panaji police.

The reason: the department is not functioning and should be permanently closed.

Goa Foundation also said that they will start talks with truckers and other stakeholders to restart mining in Goa as government even after 3 months after the closure of mining still had no proper plans to start it.

Goa Forward has also reiterated its demand that a mineral development foundation be set up and wanted the government not to go for auctioning of the ore.

Claude Alvares of Goa Foundation said they are opening negotiations with truckers and barge owners and would submit a plan to restart mining.
