Mining dharna begins at Jantar Mantar

Goa’s mining dependents have dashed India’s national capital, beginning a three-day Dharna at Jantar Mantar from Tuesday.

The move comes ahead of Supreme Court's hearing on appeal filed by mining companies challenging a 1987 law which abolished mining concessions granted by the Portuguese government.

The hearing will take place on 15th April.

The Goa Mining People's Front has also filed an Interlocutory Application in the Supreme Court, which is likely to be listed for hearing soon.
