Mining dependents give the deadline of Jan 20 to restart mining

Mining dependents have given a deadline of 20th January for mining to resume.

If not, they would paralyze Goa.

And BJP MPs as well as Goa’s BJP ministers have said the centre would bring a proper bill in the forthcoming Parliament session, not an ordinance.

Congress has assured to support the bill even in Rajya Sabha.

Goa assembly had recently a resolution to push the centre to amend laws to restart mining across the state.

The resolution wants the laws in Goa amended so existing miners can continue to extract ore for about 20 years.

A little earlier mining came to a halt in March over allegations of illegal mining.

The Supreme Court had asked the government to issue fresh licences and cancel existing ones.

And if the law is changed and cleared by the Modi government, it could bring relief to mining companies.

However, there is a dissenting opinion on ordinance.

Ravindra Velip a long time mining activist says that if the government follows the supreme ocurt guidelines mining will restart.

But if it goes for measures like ordinance it would just be to fool the people
