The government has expressed shock at the National Green Tribunal staying the Goa government beach shack policy as the Coastal Zone Management Plan had not been submitted. The NGT has directed the government to submit the plan to the NGT latest by November 15.

The government had cleared the shack policy well in advance this year at the request of the shacks owners. A meeting was called by the the government on shack allotment when the news of the NGT stay filtered in.

Tourism Minister Babu Ajgaokar expressing shock at the order, said that once the order comes in they would study the matter before taking a decision.

The minister said that certain sections were responsible of running to the NGT for any small issue and creating hurdles in the way of development on the tourism centric coastal belt. The environment minister Nilesh Cabral had warned of this delay when there was non participation in CZMP meetings throughout the state.

Shack owners were happy that the government had this year cleared the shack policy early this time. And had even gone to thanks the tourism minister for this.
