Panaji-Margao road diversion: Cortalim panchayat to approach court if it happens

Locals have threatened to file a public interest litigation if it goes ahead.

The government plans to close a portion of the highway for around a year to complete the work on the new Zuari bridge.

 Cortalim panchayat held a special gram sabha on Sunday to discuss the proposed traffic diversion plan.

Authorities are finalising plans to close a 3.5-km stretch of the highway between the Cortalim Circle and Sharayu Toyota showroom.

The traffic diversion plan entails a 22-km long detour via Chicalim Junction, Airport Junction and Verna.

The gram sabha members also slammed contractor Dilip Buildcon for taking local farmers for granted and damaging their fields, houses and property.
