Bombay High Court in Goa has issued notices to three main municipalities over the lack of kabrastan, crematoriums and cemetry in their juridictions. Goa is short of more than 265 burial grounds and crematoriums. 75-year-old Sheikh Manjur Quadri is personally arguing the case in the high court.

Goa has 191 panchayats. And in these Goa is not having crematoriums 43 villages, no cemetaries in 50 villages and kabrastans in almost 172 villages. Sheikh Mansur Quadri approached the court as a last resort ads all his efforts with Directorate of Panchayats, Chief Secretary, Governor and even National Minority Commission were fruitless. The high court is speeding up its hearing since 7th August. Now, court has issued notices to Mapusa, Ponda and Madgao municipalities.

Last year in June, people of Paira in Mayem had objected to cremate a local villager’s relative calling his outsiders. Instead of allowing it, Bicholim mamlatdar declared that people living for less than 80 years are outsiders and shifted the cremation to Bicholim town. Watch the contention of this Mamlatdar.
