Why BJP-MGP silent now on Vasco-da-Gama celebration, asks GSM

Goa Suraksha Manch has asked why the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Maharashtrwadi Gomantak Party, who are in the government, are silent on Vasco da Gama’s centenary celebration.

It has also reminded that both the parties had opposed similar programme in 1997 as the opposition parties.

BJP’s Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida has come forward with the proposal to celebrate 100 years of naming the port city after Portuguese sailor Vasco da Gama.

After the rebel RSS leader Subhash Velingkar’s Bharat Mata ki Jai opposed it, now their political outfit Goa Suraksha Manch has threatened to disrupt the function if government celebrates it.

Our Vasco reporter tried throughout the  day to get comments of BJP’s Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida on this.

But he did not respond. Also no other ruling party leader is prepared to speak on the issue in Vasco.
