We had no mandate to suggest remedies on MoI & grants: Bhaskar Nayak

Nothing concrete has come out of the Bhaskar Nayak Committee set up by the BJP government to decide about the controversial Medium of Instruction issue and whom to give government grants.

The report is submitted. But only by compiling people’s suggestions. No concrete suggestion from the committee on this controversial issue.

Chairman of the Committee and former Director of Higher Education Bhaskar Nayak said the committee was given mandate to make suggestions only on upgrading standard of primary education.

No remedy was asked on the issue of grants to primary schools. It means now the ball is back in the court of Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar. After setting up the 17-member committee in August 2016 by then chief minister Laxmikant Parsekar, it was given many extensions.

The report was submitted to education director Neela Mohanan last week, almost after two years and five months.

Principal Nayak tells us why there was such a delay.
