Velsao in danger of severe flooding during monsoon, warns local body:

Debris has been dumped into Water canals and water bodies in Velsaodue to the ongoing double tracking work, activists and opposition alleged today. Local activists, who have been at the forefront of the fight against double tracking,



have warned of the danger this poses to the village of Velsao, especially withmonsoons round the corner.

Canals, which are responsible for draining water into the ocean, have been covered in mud and debris. And officials from the biodiversity committee have warned that Velsao could face life threatening flooding come the monsoons. Local fishermen, who rely on these water bodies during the wet season, will also be badly affected if nothing is done to clear the debris, officials warned.

Congress’ OlencioSimoes and Activist Orville Dourado were also present for the inspection of the affected creek. Here’s what they had to say.
