Varunapuri to MPT highway work blocks drains; Baina locals suffer

As a result, Baina has experienced a flood-like situation with rainwater entering locals houses. These traditional drains have existed from Portuguese times.

Officials say that efforts are on to open the drains and give relief to Baina locals.

Mormugao Municipal Council chairperson Deepak Naik has raised concern over the on-going work of National Highway Authority of India to connect Varunapuri to Mormugao Port.

Locals have alleged that the work has resulted in mud being dumped in the gutters and drains. And this was the reason why water entered their houses.
