Beach shacks may not get permission for the next tourism season if coastal zone management plan is not submitted to the central environment ministry by August end. This is the fear expressed by chief minister Dr Pramod Sawant. He and his environment minister Nilesh Cabral have categorically stated that the old controversial plan is scrapped and they want to prepare a new plan in consultation with the people.

CM Pramod Sawant raised the issue of CZMP in the Assembly on Tuesday when the House was discussing people’s opposition to Sewage Treatment Plant in Ponda. While he told the Assembly that government would not bow down to such anti-development pressures, he spoke to Goa365 later, explaining his position on CZMP opposition. Environment Minister Nilesh Cabral dubbed the opposition as political and claimed that organisations like Goa Foundation and Goencho Avaz have supported his move to go to the people.
