SCRAP CAGE FISHING SCHEME

The cage fishing concept has failed in Goa, Local fishermen said today. The opposition Goa Forward who met the fisheries director alleged that to make matters worse, the cage fishing scheme has been modified to allow the inclusion of people from all over the country, and demanded that the scheme be either scrapped or the modification revised.

Union Fisheries Ministry had announced cage fishing concept in Goa where fishermen can breed fish in cages, which are placed in deep sea. This would enable fishermen to sell fish even during the fishing ban.

However, Goa Forward alleged that cage fishing scheme which was only applicable for Goans initially has been modified and taken to an all India level. This would allow people from neighboring state to also do this business in Goa.
