Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was disqualified from the LokSabha this morning, following his 2-year conviction in the ‘Modi surname’ defamation case on Thursday. In its notification, the LokSabha Secretariat informed that Gandhi’s disqualification as Wayanad MP is effective from March 23rd – the day of his conviction.

Support has poured in from across the country for the Congress leader, with some even saying that the move was indicative of ‘democracy being silenced. West Bengal CM,

Mamata Banerjee in a tweet said "In PM Modi’s New India, Opposition leaders have become the prime target of BJP!" A tweet from ShashiTharoor read "I’m stunned by this action and by its rapidity, within 24 hours of the court verdict and while an appeal was known to be in process. This is politics with the gloves off and it bodes ill for our democracy."

Even as many have come out in support of Gandhi, many more stand in support of his disqualification. Especially many leaders from the ruling dispensation.
