Drinking water supply is affected in Ponda and parts of Tiswadi talukas because water pumps at Opa water treatment plants are damaged. The PWD is trying hard to repair the pumps and resume the water supply by Sunday, but they are not sure. Panaji however will not be affected.

Citizens in Ponda town and part of Tiswadi taluka woke up to find their taps dry as all seven pumps of the pumping station attached to the water treatment plant on the river banks were submerged due to rise in water level.

The water level rose up because of heavy rains over the past few days. The lack of raw water supply for treatment at the Curti plant resulted in taps going dry.

The treatment plant is situated two kilometers away from the Opa pumping station.

The damaged pumps were supposed to be taken to Vasco for repairs.

The water supply to Panaji, however, will not be affected as there is a separate plant to treat water to the capital city and five separate pumps to source raw water from the river.
