Hundreds of writers, artists, activists, youth and even politicians gathered in Panaji and demanded to ban the Sanatani organisations in Goa and probe their activities.

They had gathered in Panaji on Wednesday to condemn the life threat writer Damodar Mauzo has received from these Sanatani elements.

Mauzo has been given police protection after his name figured in the list found with one of the suspects arrested in the Gauri Lankesh murder case.

They symbolically gathered in Panaji municipal garden to express their solidarity to Mauzo and condemn the religious fanatics who have been killing rationalist writers. Mauzo was present at the demonstration.

The demonstration also received support from Congress MLAs like Digambar Kamat, Nilkanth Halarnkar, Dayanand Sopte, Tony Fernandes, Aleixo Reginald Lourenco and Luizinho Faleiro.

Though they did not speak, Mohandas Lolayekar, general secretary of Goa Forward, who is part of the coalition government, spoke. He blamed his own government.
