Delayed electricity billing is cheating consumers: Cong

The party says delayed billing and delayed meter reading increased the units consumed, thus pushing the consumer into a higher slab where the higher rate applies.

 The Congress party said there are various slabs of unit consumption under which the consumers are billed.

For example, for one to 100 units a consumer is charged 1 rupee  40 paise per unit while for 101 units to 200 units the consumer is charged 2 rupees and 10 paise per unit.

If the meter reading is delayed, the consumption of units is artificially bloated and the consumer has to pay more per unit because he is automatically pushed into  a higher slab..
