With heavy rains battering the state, fire brigade officials have been kept busy dealing with uprooted trees and major fires. Late Monday night, a house in Vontem-Fatorpa Balli was crushed under a tree that was uprooted by heavy rains and strong winds.

While, fire department officials have begun clearing trees and rubble, officers say they were delayed in reaching the spot on account of blocked internal roads.

A similar concern was raised by officials tendered to put out the fire that broke out at a Bata godown in Mapusa on Sunday night. Locals have also appealed to the government to commission 1 more fire bridage in Cuncolim.

They say that Cuncolim is too large an area for one brigade to be able to tend to multiple issues. Listen
