Cong demands FIR after MLA Monserrate admits to Smart City work being sub-standard

The Congress has come down heavily on the incumbent government over the ongoing smart city. MLA Atanassio ‘Babush’ Monserrate, while speaking to media after the Cabinet meet on Wednesday, acknowledged that on-going work is sub-standard.



The shocking statement has drawn in flak from the opposition party who are demanding a FIR be registered against those involved, especially since it was the government itself that had made the admission.

The MLA and his son, the Mayor of Panjim who have been at the receiving end of criticism for the haphazard work, have time and again claimed they are not responsible or in-charge of the work.

However, a quick check at the line-up of those on the board of directors reveals that the father-son duo is very much a part of it. Congress leader, Elvis Gomes highlighted this fact.

He also informed that the Chairman of the boar in the Chief Vigilance officer of the state. Which raises the question, that if action has to be taken, then who would act and against whom.

To make matters worse, the Union Minister of Urban Affairs, Hardeep Singh’s visit to Goa to review Smart City work, was shrouded in mystery. The opposition hit out at the hushed - up nature of the visit, alleging that there might be more to hide than we know.

Congress’ Vijay Bhike demanded the Chief Minister conduct a technical audit of the work being done. Bhike informed that the party would organize a cycling rally through Panjim to highlight the ‘3rd grade work’. Here’s what he had to say.
