Goa receives bountiful every monsoon, but water shortage is a perennial problem in the state. On Sunday, locals from Gaune Shimgemand in Ponda's Bandora village gheraoed Water Works junior engineer Manoj Naik, blocking his vehicle for seven hours. He had gone there to check whether Gaune area really does not receive water or not after repeated local complaints.
The
villagers allowed junior engineer Manoj Naik's
to go only when executive engineer Nivruti Parsekar reached the spot and
assured the locals of supplying water regularly. Locals allege that Manoj releases more water to the Madkai industrial estate
and they don't get any. Locals say that water is released at 7 p.m and stops at
7.30 pm. They say half an hour is hardly
enough to fill their storage tanks.
