In spite of stiff opposition from the NGOs including the Church, Goa government has finally decided to go ahead with its decision to operationalise the existing Regional Plan, but with amendments to decide specific issues on case-to-case basis.

The cabinet on Wednesday also approved amendments to the town and country planning act to bring into force the TDR – Transferrable Development Rights.

After the cabinet meeting, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar did not brief the media. It was Town and Country Planning Minister Vijai Sardesai for the decisions of his department and Rohan Khaunte to announce the IT policy.

The ball is now thrown in the court of the opposition Congress. Because they need to support the amendments to the Regional Plan in the forthcoming Assembly session.

Vijai also said that three types of TDR will be introduced to protect Goa’s green cover which will also benefit the landowner.
