SC gives green signal to Mopa airport, restores EC for the project

Supreme Court has given a green signal to Goa government to go ahead with Mopa International Airport. The apex court in its judgment on Thursday restored the Environmental Clearance granted to Mopa airport.

However, the Court has directed the State and the project proponent to follow all conditions laid down by the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change, National Green Tribunal and Expert Appraisal Committee during the construction.

Supreme Court had suspended the environmental clearance granted to the airport in March last year after Goa-based activist Hanumant Aroskar and Federation of Rainbow Warriors filed two petitions challenging the environmental clearance granted by NGT.

The court had directed EAC to revisit the decision by studying its impact on ecology.
