Elections held in North Eastern Tripura today, records high voter turnout || ENGLISH || GOA365

The north eastern state of Tripura went to polls today in what’s a multi cornered fight for 60 seats. The state recorded a high percentage of voter turnout, wherein 28 lakh eligible voters would decide who would form the next government.



Banking on its double enginesarkar plank, the BJP appeared confident of retaining Tripura, a key state in the north-east. The CPM-Congress alliance is also in fray besides the regional TIPRA MOTHA political party. A win for any of the 3, could shed light of what’s in store for the BJP as well as the opposition, during the upcoming Lok Sabha polls to be held next year.Many women were seen standing in long queues for hours in order to vote, with over 259 candidates contesting.

To ensure that polling is held in a free, fair, and peaceful manner, the Election Commission said that 31,000 security personnel were placed all over the hill state. The counting of the votes will now be held on March 2nd.
