The Bhartiya Janta Party and its allies in the North east managed to hold its iron fist in Tripura and Nagaland. The party managed to cross the half way mark as the counting of the votes was held today.
The Congress’s decline continued in these 2 states as they failed to secure a majority, while in Meghalaya no single political party could get the magic figure.
In Nagaland, as predicted during the exit polls, the BJP and its alliance partner the NDPP crossed the halfway mark. In fact history was scripted as NDPP’s Hekani Jhakalu, became the firstfemale MLA to be elected to the Nagaland assembly.
While the Congress stares at its electoral loses, in Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma’s party; the NPP was a little short of the majority mark. According to poll experts, considering that the BJP and the NPP are former allies, they could very well join hands once again.
