Cyber Crime Cell bursts Face book fraud

Cyber Cell of Goa police have arrested Swapnil Naik for defrauding one victim of Rs 23 Lakhs by creating a fake Facebook profile and impersonating a woman interested in marrying him. Police have arrested Naik in Devangere district- Karnataka. On interrogation, the accused revealed that he used to pose as female on social media application and trap innocent persons for financial gains.



On interrogation, the accuse said that he would also blackmail his victims, once they shared their personal details and then trap them further. Further investigation is on to identify the victims and other persons involved in this network. Swapnil Naik was previously arrested twice by Curchorem Police station in Fraud & Cheating case. Cyber Cell has further advised all persons to be careful while interacting with unknown persons online. Refrain from sharing any sensitive data online. Always verify the authenticity of the persons you are contacting through your common friends and don’t add unknown persons to your social network.
