13-year old kidnapped, raped; police crack case in 12 hours

The police on Thursday cracked a case within 12 hours of kidnapping and raping a 13-year old minor girl who was abandoned at Ambaulim hillock in Quepem talauka. The girl is being rescued and treated in the hospital. The police have also arrested a 23-year old boy as a suspect.

The Maina Curtorim police swiftly moved into action after a complaint was registered by victim’s mother on Wednesday evening. Their daughter had not returned from the School. After thorough investigation, the police zeroed down on 23-year old family friend Melvyn Fernandes as a suspect. While he was arrested, people of Ambaulim told the police about a girl found unconscious with injuries on her face at one of the hillocks. 

Some woman activists congratulated the police for arresting the accuse, while the opposition Mahila’s came down heavy on the Government over the rise in criminal cases in the state.
