Vasco-based businessman Munnalal Halwai will file a special leave petition in the Supreme Court asking for time-bound sanction to prosecute former Goa IGP Sunil Garg.

The petition relates to the complaint filed by the businessman against then IGP Sunil Garg alleging that he had asked for a bribe.

Margao Sessions Court had ruled in January 2018 that a FIR be registered against then Goa IGP Sunil Garg for allegedly taking bribe of five lakh fifty thousand rupees to register a case in a cheating case.

The High Court however set aside the order of the Sessions Court after the then IGP Garg approached it.

But the  High Court also gave liberty to  Munnalal to file a writ petition asking for directions to a competent authority to expedite sanction for prosecution against Garg.

To register an FIR against then IGP Garg and prosecute him, sanction from the union ministry of home affairs is needed.

In the latest special leave petition, Munnalal has named is Chief Secretary, Anti-Corruption SP, an officer in charge of the Anti-Corruption branch, chief Vigilance Commission and secretary to the Ministry of Home Affairs as respondents.
