The feast of Saint Francis Xavier was celebrated on Tuesday, with thousands of devotees seeking blessings of Goencho Saib. While the Bishops wished the whole human kind blessings of the Almighty God, the politicians had contrasting claims. BJP minister claimed their government had blessings of Goencho Saib while opposition leaders sought blessings of Goencho Saib for their government.

Thousands of devotees from all parts of Goa as well as neighbouring states of Maharashtra and Karnataka flocked to Old Goa during nine days of Novenas as well as on the day of feast on Tuesday.

The high mass was celebrated by the Bishop of Mangalore Peter Paul Saldanha. Bishops of Ranchi and Andaman also attended the prayers along with Goa Archbishop Filip Neri Ferrao.

The Old Goa feast was also attended by Goa’s chief minister Dr Pramod Sawant, deputy CM Babu Kavalekar, Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat, ministers, MLAs as well as leaders of different political parties.

While most of the politicians wished Happy Feast to all Goans across religious lines, minister Mauvin Godinho and Goa Forward leader Vijai Sardesai had something more to pray.

No feast in Goa is complete without the Ferry and Maand of Chonne, Bhiknna, Khajem, Laddu and all kind of other festive sweets, toys and all kind of household items.

In spite of thousands of devotees gathering at Old Goa, there was no traffic jam observed due to traffic arrangements made by Goa police.
